Facilitators Required for Strengthening Families

Strengthening Families is seeking expressions of interest from suitable applicants to train as Facilitators for Family/Whanau meetings. This is a voluntary role.

Strengthening Families is a structured, early intervention, family/whanau-centred process that seeks to achieve the following long-term outcome:
Children, young people and their families/whanau have the opportunity to reach their full potential and participate positively in society.

The role of the Facilitator is to:
Establish the ground rules for each meeting, including confidentiality, respect and safety
Establish an agenda for the meeting
Provide structure and leadership in the meeting process
Ensure that cultural and gender needs are responded to appropriately
Ensure that participants are clear about their role in the meeting
Bring an independent and unbiased point of view
Ensure that the SF process is adhered to
Ensure outcomes or resolutions are recorded.

The skills we are seeking include:
Good listener
Culturally sensitive
Good leadership and ability to keep participants focused on the issues
Commitment to the principles of Te-Tiriti oWaitangi
Non-judgemental
Willingness to learn new skills

The training will be over two consecutive days 9.00-3.00pm on Thursday October 20th and Friday October 21st. 

Facilitators once trained, will be asked to commit to a minimum number of meetings per year.
