Xmas Safety Tips

To ensure this Christmas is memorable for all the RIGHT reasons here are some Safety and Security Reminders ...

PROPERTY:
*When you are away, let your Neighbourhood Support Group know so other members know to keep a check on things.
* If you'd like to - invite neighbours to park their car in your driveway
                           - hang laundry on your washing line
                           - keep mail cleared
                           - wander around your garden
* DO NOT change your answer machine message letting caller know you are away.
all these steps help with the security of your home - hopefully making it nice and welcoming to come home to.

DRIVING:
*Prepare your vehicle well, have it serviced prior to any long trip ...
*Share the driving ...
*Take breaks ... even if they are unscheduled
*Always have in the car - snacks, water, blankets, good walking shoes, torch - in case you get stranded.

BEACH:
Kiwis love to head for the beach in the summer ... Have a great time but remember:

*Sunburn is NO fun, lots of sun block and a hat (for everyone)
*Don't forget to sunblock your feet, they are often forgotten ...
*Keep the idea of a Tusnami in the back of your mind:
                          - Keep a lookout for Tsunami escape route signage when you get to the beach
                          - Let the natural Tsunami warning signs be your guide
                                   # Strong Earthquake
                                   # Strange Sea behavior - sea levels suddenly rising or falling
                                   # Strange Sea noises - similar to the roar of a jet engine

If you experience any of these signs, DON'T WAIT FOR AN OFFICIAL WARNING - HEAD FOR HIGH GROUND.
